What is a ceramic coating ? 

A ceramic coating is a liquid polymer that is applied to your vehicle's exterior and chemically bonds with the factory paint to create a durable, transparent layer of protection. Unlike waxes or sealants that sit on the surface, ceramic coatings become a semi-permanent barrier that helps protects your paint from UV rays, oxidation, dirt, road grime, bird droppings, bug splatter, and other environmental contaminants.

What damage it doesn't prevent 

A ceramic coating while helps prevent Swirling and micro scratches the main things it does not prevent against is rock chips and deep scratches on your paints surface.
